Trogon Lodge, a path through the clouds to Paradise !
It took me a while to be able to make time to visit this lodge…
When Eugenia Jurado, the marketing manager proposed me this eco-lodge as a wedding location…
But I could no picture it ,I had the idea of a simple mountain hotel in the forest…
HOW WRONG I WAS ! the property is located on the road to Cerro de La Muerte, the highest mountain in Costa Rica, therefore the forest is very dramatic and overwhelming as soon as we reach the town of San Gerardo…
A short 2 hours’ drive, with 15 minutes stop for empanadas, tortillas con queso , chorreadas and hot coffee ( I am not translating this, you have to come and find out by yourself ) J and we got there about 11:00 am, sunny morning with cool breeze !
We walk through the garden and admire the many beautiful flowers , the colors of the plants and vegetation and try about 10 different fruits, all different from what we normally find at the pacific side.
Some species are local and other ones as been brought by the owners from other countries, a very exotic combination.
The hotel has 22 rooms, cozy wood cabins with amazing views , 1 restaurant, bar, terraces, lake, canopy, trails for hiking .
The most impressive thing for me was the many picture perfect spot I found! The entire place is like a post card, gorgeous flowers with bright colors, oversized hydrangeas, and the most perfect succulents I have never seen before . Hundreds of them , growing together covering the grounds and smiling, yes, they look like smiles to me !
Adding to the magic is the Savegre river running fast along the forest, bursting with natural life and pure water .
The facilities at the lodge are built to enjoy the simple things, the views, the mountains surrounding the site and to warm the heart with good company and good food !
Fireplace, wood tables , and fresh cut flowers are the bonus you could get for a perfect mountain wedding day …
The whole I was envisioning beautiful weddings… morning ceremony barefoot at the river side , romantic dinner at the top platform of the canopy, gazebo decorated with callas, deck at the lake to say YES !! and then, delightful dinner with creative meals made with locally growing herbs , vegetables and fruits . I tried the fresh rainbow trout with vegetables , and it was perfect !
When couples ask me for a green wedding, waterfall wedding, eco wedding, I now have an answer !!
The owners are costarrican , visionary couple with love to nature and great taste .
They can cater for small groups , up to 80 people, and their concept is simple : make you and your guest happy all day long !
The proposal they have put together includes 2 nights, meals, coffee time, dessert time, wine tasting, or anything you have in mind….
There are also tours, hiking and peaceful corners to read and recharge…
